What is Voice over IP?

Do you worry so much about having large phone bills that it prevents you from calling your friends and relatives who are thousands of miles away? Are you a businessman with domestic and international clients who expect to be checked upon every so often (but you’re trying to reduce operating costs by evading large long distance charges)?

Fret no more, a solution has come, thanks to the new technology that is widely available in the market today. It’s called the VoIP or IP Telephony service. Voice over IP will streamline your long distance relationships whether they be business, family or friendships.
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is the technology used to pass on voice conversations over a data network by means of the Internet Protocol. It conveys ordinary phone calls over the internet or intranet (for huge companies) using packet-linked routes.

Some VoIP service providers may only allow you to call people using the same service. However, other VoIP service providers now let you call local telephone numbers, long distance numbers, mobile numbers, and international numbers. Using a VoIP service is also a cost-friendly option for those who need to make long distance calls frequently. As long as you are connected to the internet, you can place VoIP’s calls free of charge. For example: Skype to Skype call is free, also Yahoo to Yahoo is free. But using Skype to call a landline or mobile phone will cost a minimal amount on a per minute basis. The same thing goes for the Yahoo calls.

With VoIP’s,  calling to the USA (or anywhere in the world) even if your office is in Australia will just cost the same as though you’re calling a colleague who’s just nearby.

Now, is that amazing or what?
